Numbers Are the Language of Impact
Recruiters don't just read resumes — they scan for evidence. And the most convincing evidence comes in the form of numbers.
Consider:
- "Improved the onboarding process" — Vague. Could mean anything.
- "Redesigned the onboarding process, reducing new hire ramp-up time from 12 weeks to 6 weeks and saving $45K annually in training costs" — Compelling. Specific. Memorable.
The second version gets callbacks. The first gets forgotten.
The 7 Categories of Resume Metrics

"But My Work Isn't Measurable"
This is the most common objection. Every role has measurable outcomes — you just need to look differently.
For Administrative Roles:
- Number of executives supported
- Meetings coordinated per week
- Travel arrangements managed
- Budget administered
For Creative Roles:
- Projects delivered on time
- Client approval rates
- Campaign performance metrics
- Portfolio growth
For Teaching/Training:
- Students taught
- Pass rates
- Satisfaction scores
- Curriculum developed
For Customer Service:
- Calls/tickets handled per day
- Resolution time
- Customer satisfaction rating
- Escalation reduction
The Estimation Framework
When you don't have exact numbers, estimate conservatively:
- Think about frequency: How often did you do this? (daily, weekly, monthly)
- Think about scale: How many people/items/dollars were involved?
- Think about change: What was it before vs. after your involvement?
- Use approximations: "~" and "+" are perfectly acceptable ("Managed ~$2M budget" or "Supported 50+ clients")
Before and After Examples

| Improved team productivity | Implemented new workflow that increased team output by 35% |
