Resume or CV in Australia?
Australians use both words, and they usually mean the same thing: a document of two to three pages for experienced applicants, and one to two pages for recent graduates.
What to include
- Career summary at the top
- Key achievements listed under each role
- Education and training, including licences and tickets
- Referees: two or three, with name, title and contact details, often added at the end
- Work rights: state your visa or citizenship status if relevant
Leave out your photo, date of birth and marital status.
City notes
Sydney and Melbourne
Finance, consulting, technology and healthcare dominate. Large employers screen with ATS, so use plain headings and a single column.
Brisbane and the Gold Coast
Construction, health and tourism are strong. Practical licences (White Card, RSA) should be easy to spot.
Perth
Mining, engineering and resources roles value safety certifications and site experience. List FIFO availability if it applies.
Government roles
Public-sector roles may ask you to respond to selection criteria. Address each one with a short example using Situation, Task, Action and Result.
Spelling
Use Australian English (organisation, licence, program).
